Vermillion County – A Milwaukee, Wis., man was arrested on several drug charges after speeding on State Road 63 and then fleeing from a State Trooper.

On Tuesday at approximately 4:05 p.m. an Indiana State Police trooper from the Putnamville Post saw an SUV driven by Azjuan K. Meriweather, 23, of Milwaukee driving at a high rate of speed southbound on State Road 63 near State Road 32.

The SUV was clocked at 75 mph in a 60 mph zone.

Meriwether pulled over when the Trooper activated his emergency lights.

The officer learned Meriwether did not have a valid driver’s license and was wanted for resisting law enforcement.

When the state trooper returned to the SUV, Meriwether sped away.

At times, the SUV was speeding at 115 mph. Due to concern for public safety, police vehicles did not pursue the SUV but several officers kept it under surveillance.

After the SUV’s tires were punctured with a stop stick, Meriwether fled on foot and was brought down by a taser in Clinton.

More than a pound of Various drugs were found in the SUV.

Meriwether was arrested and is being held in the Vermillion County Jail.
