WESTFIELD, Ind.–Indianapolis Colts Owner Jim Irsay says it is time “to start a new era” in Indianapolis.

At Colts training camp Wednesday, Irsay said he is thrilled that Colts General Manager Chris Ballard was able to get quarterback Matt Ryan to come to Indianapolis.

“We have this strong feeling that when Ryan comes in that this is the time to set up another generation of greatness,” said Irsay.

Ryan was the NFL’s Most Valuable Player in 2016. He has set numerous NFL records, including having the most consecutive NFL games with at least 200 passing yards (64).

Irsay says since other organizations like Green Bay, Tampa Bay, and Kansas City have become tough to beat and started their own “new eras,” that means it is time for the Colts to move ahead with a championship-caliber era of their own.

“I mean it’s about greatness with the horseshoe. We understand that great eras don’t last forever, but great organizations do,” said Irsay.

He says that can all start by winning their regular season opener, which is something they haven’t done since 2013. They play at Houston September 11.

“We can’t worry about anything but going to play our best football during that game and every game this season,” said Irsay.

The Colts had a 98% chance of making the playoffs last season before losing the last two games to Oakland and Jacksonville.

“This is about greatness with the horeshoe. We know great eras don’t last, but great organizations do.

The Colts still have two preseason games before the regular season begins. They face Detroit this Saturday and then take on Tampa Bay August 27.
