Vigo County primary election results have shifted after an internal audit discovered nearly 2,000 unrecorded ballots. The Vigo County Clerk’s Office attributed the discrepancy to “human error,” explaining that while all ballots were scanned on election day, 1,958 votes were inadvertently omitted from the initial unofficial report. While major races for sheriff, commissioner, and state senate remained unchanged, the audit did alter the outcomes of two local contests. In the Fayette Township Board race, Sammy J. Lane moved into a winning position, and Todd Nation claimed victory in a Democratic precinct committee race that was previously tied. Officials emphasized that these internal safeguards are designed specifically to catch such errors before results are certified. Final certification of the primary election is scheduled for May 15th at the County Election Board meeting.
