Sullivan County – Sullivan County is stepping into the digital future following the announcement of a massive new industrial campus that could become one of the largest economic development projects in Indiana history. County commissioners signed key road and community enhancement agreements on Monday morning for the Heartland Industrial Park, a 1,000-acre development located along U.S. 41. The $65-billion project is designed to house advanced technology including data centers and light manufacturing near the Merom Generating Station. Local officials anticipate the campus will generate approximately 2,000 construction jobs and 375 permanent positions once operational. As part of the deal, developers have pledged $4.5 million to support local nonprofits, parks, and community programs. Groundbreaking for the project is expected within the next few weeks, with the first phase of construction slated for completion in 2027.
