Terre Haute, In. – The Environmental Protection Agency is scheduled to begin testing several Brownfield sites in the city of Terre Haute.  Brownfield sites are properties that are under-utilized due to potential contamination, or presence of hazardous materials. The city has received grant money from the EPA’s Brownfield Program to pay for this testing. Several sites are on the schedule to be tested including the site of the “Home Good Products” factory on the corner of 19th and Beech St. and the site of the former “Coke and Carbon” plant at the corner of 13th and Hulman St.  Once these areas are cleaned the land is then considered a “greenfield”. Greenfield properties are able to be developed, either with commercial or residential developments.
