Terre Haute, In.- A teacher from Ouabache Elementary School in Vigo County was arrested Tuesday following allegations that she battered a student under the age of 14. Forty-five-year-old Stepheny Auten faces a Level 6 felony charge of battery after an investigation by the Terre Haute Police Department’s Juvenile Division into a report filed on April 30. The Vigo County School Corporation confirmed they immediately contacted the Department of Child Services upon learning of the incident and placed Auten on administrative leave. Following an internal review, the school corporation has launched formal proceedings to terminate her employment.
