Terre Haute, In. – Terre Haute Mayor Brandon Sakbun officially announced a major expansion and renovation of the Booker T. Washington Community Center during a Park and Recreation Board meeting on Monday. The project aims to meet rising demand for youth recreation by adding several new indoor multipurpose courts for year-round sports. Construction is slated to begin this fall and is expected to take 18 to 24 months to complete. Funding for the improvements will be sourced entirely from existing Economic Development Income Tax (EDIT) and gaming revenue, requiring no new property taxes or bonds. City officials are currently interviewing architects and contractors to finalize the design of the updated indoor and outdoor play spaces.
