Terre Haute, In. – Indiana State University is breathing new life into the heart of campus with a major $4.2 million renovation of the Hulman Memorial Student Union Commons. The ISU Board of Trustees has authorized the university to seek state approval for an overhaul that promises to transform the student experience with modernized lighting, flooring, and flexible seating areas. A cornerstone of the project is the return of the ISU Bookstore to a dedicated 7,000-square-foot space within the Commons. University officials emphasize that the transformation will be entirely self-funded through bookstore and debt reserves, meaning no state tax dollars are required. Construction is expected to begin this year, with the goal of welcoming students to the revamped space by the start of the Spring 2027 semester.
