Terre Haute, In. – Last week a woman was jogging a new route through a wooded area of Fairbanks park around 6:00 a.m. when she was struck from behind and knocked to the ground. The assailant then allegedly brandished a knife and began slashing at her, inflicting lacerations to her stomach and arm. Despite her injuries, the woman managed to fight back by kicking the suspect in the knee, allowing her to escape the wooded area and seek help. Using the detailed description provided by the victim, officers and K-9 Simba tracked the man to a northeast section of the park, where he was found hiding in the brush. Police identified the man as Tyler J. Gramelspacher, a transient who had recently returned to the area, had intended to sleep in the park that night. Gramelspacher has been formally charged with multiple felonies, including aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, battery resulting in serious bodily injury, and criminal trespass. He made his initial court appearance on Friday, where a judge set his bond at $20,000 cash.
