
Statewide – The Indiana State Police warns citizens to be aware of scams involving Facebook Marketplace. They warn do not send money through services like Apple Pay, Venmo, or wire transfer for items not physically seen or from sellers only contacted via messenger. They recommend asking more questions and arranging in-person meetings before transferring any money. Phone calls from supposed sellers do not guarantee legitimacy, as it’s easy to spoof phone numbers. The say that if a deal seems too good to be true, such as drastically under priced vehicles or electronics it probably is. If sellers cannot provide additional photos or meet in person, it’s likely a scam, police said.
