MATT RYAN’S FUMBLING WOES

INDIANAPOLIS–Indianapolis Colts quarterback Matt Ryan is on pace to set a new single-season record for fumbles.

Ryan had two fumbles in the Colts 24-17 loss to the Tennessee Titans Sunday. That puts him at nine fumbles in four games. It puts him on pace to have 38 fumbles in one season, which would easily break the NFL record of 23 set by Kerry Collins in 2001 and later matched by Daunte Culpepper in 2002.

“I think I’ve just got to protect it better. It’s a very uncharacteristic four-game stretch for me. It’s something I’ve got to clean up and get better at. If we can put together a clean game, I think we can be very good,” said Ryan Sunday afternoon after the Colts loss.

Ryan explained what happened on the second fumble Sunday.

“I was trying to get the ball out. I was trying to pull it down and then throw it. It’s one of those things where as you’re getting ready to pull it, sometimes they are in the right place at the right time.

Ryan has thrown five touchdowns in 2022, but also five interceptions. He has also been sacked 15 times. Ryan says he still believes in his team.

“It’s a group that comes to work the right way every day. There’s a level of intensity and focus. The way we’ve been in games throughout the year shows that,” said Ryan.

The Colts are 1-2-1. They face the 2-2 Denver Broncos Thursday night at 8:15 pm EST.
