Two Killed, Two Hurt In Parke County When Van Hits Amish Buggy

PARKE COUNTY, Ind – Two people were killed in a Saturday morning accident in Parke County.

It happened around 9:45 a.m. on US 36 near the Raccoon Lake Bridge.

Sheriff’s Department officials say that a local Amish family of four were west bound in a horse drawn buggy on US36 East of the Raccoon Lake Bridge when a west bound van driven by 66 year old Steven Miller Ealy, of Danville, Indiana struck the buggy from the rear and forced the buggy off of the roadway.

Police say that two of the four occupants of the buggy were killed in the crash. The two other occupants of the buggy were flown to hospitals in Indianapolis. Their condition is not known.

The driver of the van was not injured. Officers say that alcohol and drugs are not suspected to be factors in the crash.

A Veterinarian from West Central Veterinarian Services cared for the horse at the scene.
