TERRE HAUTE – When a Terre Haute police officer reported for duty Thursday, a police lieutenant smelled alcohol.  The officer, Jeffrey Pupilli, was then arrested for OWI.

Terre Haute Police Chief Shawn Keen said Pupilli was taken to the Vigo County jail and immediately relieved of duty pending further proceedings through the court and merit board.

Pupilli allegedly was driving 93 mph near State Road 63 and Pennington Road. When he went in for a random drug test, his blood alcohol content was .596. Another test 15 minutes later showed his BAC to be .446. The legal BAC in Indiana is .08.

Officer Pupilli has been a member of the department since may of 2014.
