Terre Haute, In. – The victim in a Sunday night Terre Haute shooting has died. Terre Haute police say 22-year-old Quincy Rogers-Porter was killed following a shooting. It happened at 19th and Walnut Streets near Davis Park Elementary School and Saint Patrick Catholic Church.  The THPD released the following information Tuesday 8/2/22.

Detectives with the Terre Haute Police Department obtained an arrest warrant for Kole Hughes M/20 for the charge of Murder in regards to the July 31st shooting death of Quincy Rogers-Porter at 19th And Walnut Streets. Detectives also secured warrants to search his home in Lafayette, Indiana and collect DNA from his person.

Detectives developed Kole Hughes as a person of interest during the investigation and with the assistance of the Lafayette Police Department began surveillance on his residence located at 534 Park Avenue, Lafayette, Indiana. Detectives informed members of the Lafayette Police Department once warrants were obtained. At approximately 3:00 P.M., Lafayette Police took him into custody upon observing Hughes drive from his residence. Hughes was taken into custody with a firearm in his possession. Terre Haute Detectives later executed a search warrant at his residence and transported him back to Terre Haute. Hughes is now in the Vigo County Jail awaiting his initial court appearance.
The investigation has indicated a prior relationship between Hughes and the victim. Furthermore, the investigation suggests the victim was targeted rather than a broader attack on members of the community.
The Terre Haute Police Department would like to thank the Lafayette Police Department, the High Tech Crime Unit at ISU, and the Vigo County Prosecutor’s Office for their efforts in this case. Furthermore, we would like to thank the Vigo County School Corporation for their help with surveillance video. Despite false on line claims, the school’s surveillance system was working and a crucial piece of evidence. We especially want to thank the many residents and the victim’s family who provided crucial information and video. We know that this was a horrific event and that it is not always easy to do the right thing.
